The inhabitants of the Okić area have always been engaged in viticulture. They invest great care, toil and effort in their vineyards, worry over them on account of various diseases and adverse weather, rejoice at the ripening of the fruit, at the harvest, and finally at a good drop of wine. It is from their hearts that this folk song, "U našem lijepom kraju", was born.
In our beautiful countryside a song rings out on every side,
when the vine-grower with his cane
wages his hard battle.
He prunes it, ties it,
digs and turns the soil,
and with heavy sweat
soaks its roots.
And when autumn comes
and the little clusters ripen,
young and old rejoice
and song rings out.
Now the press creaks,
sweet new wine bubbles up,
toasts are drunk with glasses raised
and all good sense is set aside.
