The experienced beauties of the Samobor–Okić–Plešivica highlands often move individuals to describe them in verse or express them through music. Ranka Novosel, born in Zagreb on 8 June 1930, a teacher, poet and passionate mountaineer, having taken in all those beauties, set them down on paper in honour of the Samobor mountaineering society "Japetić"; the Samobor musician and teacher Željko Bradić then set down the notes, and thus "Pjesma Samoborskih planinara" — "The Song of the Samobor Mountaineers" — came into being. Ranka Novosel passed away on 11 October 2021.
Where Tepec winds up to the sky
and where a hand might touch the clouds,
where one hill smiles across to another
the mountaineer hastens through with song.
Where Okić wrestles with the wind
and where history speaks of glory,
where Oštrc hides the sun away
there a living longing draws me.
Veliki Dol I carry in my heart,
and so I built my home down there,
may it be a pledge of harmony
for the new generation yet to come.
My eye glistens with a tear,
my sweating brow I offer to the wind,
from the summit I look down on clean villages
and pride swells in my chest.
Samobor, proud town,
I love your native hills,
where every little bird knows me
and Japetić sings to me.
Here is the cradle of mountaineering, here is the birthplace of camaraderie, let the mountaineers' greeting Japetić ring across the land like a battle cry.
